January 24, 2009
We had our 1st indoor
fly in and auction last night (January 23rd) at the Shelton
Community Center and I thought it would be appropriate to send out this
communication to all our 54 members. Those
of you that couldn’t make it, or just didn’t feel like it, or forgot the
date missed a very enjoyable evening with your club.
The flying of electric indoor planes and helicopters was unbelievable, at
least for me. It was amazing to see
all the pilots flying in the middle of winter without coats, hats and gloves.
The flying started at 6 PM and continued until & 7PM and resumed after the
auction until a little after 9PM.
The auction also went well but we have a lot to learn in running our next one. Not bad for the first time, but the mistakes we made in organizing it won’t happen again as we will be better prepared for next year.
WHE, CMAC, and TILRC all made a few bucks for their treasury and the selling members got rid of their unwanted RC planes and equipment as well as taking home a few dollars. It didn’t cost WHE a cent as the rental of the gym, donuts and refreshments were paid by the proceeds with the remaining dollars divided among the three clubs. Everyone was more than satisfied by the event and the successful outcome. Next year we will increase the profit of the seller to 80% and I am sure it will bring in more modelers with items to auction.
Many members of all three clubs
encouraged me to set up another indoor flying event this winter.
I already have the approval of the Community Center and they would like
us to open it to the kids at the center as spectators.
So get ready for sometime in the end of February or early March.
I’ll broadcast the date as soon as I secure the gym.
Thank you to all of you that participated and those that helped to set up the event. Without you this club would not exist and I appreciate your participation.
I attached a few pics of the event. Go to our web site to see more.
Several of us have been ski flying at Indian Ledge. If anyone wishes to join us call Andy, Wes, or me.
See you at the next Fly In—don’t be indifferent or bashful—show up and enjoy the socializing and camaraderie—even if you don’t fly.

Also, a few pix of the REAL flyers in the club .....
